Chile 1865 cover from Valparaiso to Lima (PERU) by means of the Pacific Steam Navigation Company, franked with 1862 final London printing 10c and 20c values tied by oval CANCELLED marking and double circle VALPARAISO 1 DIC 1865 in red alongside. Lima arrival backstamp (10 Dec.). The stamps are as usual cut into, the cover is very fresh.
The 30c franking paid the maritime rate to Peru in the 15-29 grams range. Gerhard Blank FRPSL mentions in his book "Chile First Issues of postage stamps 1853-1867": "Letters ... are very rare" (p.23). A similar cover (of same quality and from the same correspondance) is illustrated in the Edition d´or book of the Joseph Hackmey "the Colon issues 1853-1867" Large Gold collection (p. 164)
